Everyone loves music, but for a Music Supervisor it’s an obsession. They devour music by the ton. They are compulsively driven to uncover new music and catalogue it in their massive music freak brains. But, that’s only part of the equation. The other part is knowing how to choose music that adds to a visual; directly, indirectly or through a striking juxtaposition. So, big music brain + expert interpretation = great music sup. Our head of Music Supervision is Nic Harcourt of KCRW. As the station’s music director and host of Morning Becomes Eclectic, Nic is exposed to more new music than probably anyone in this business. His partner in crime is Scott Deleau. Scott is fortunate to have turned his music obsession into a way to make a living. Otherwise, he’d live alone in a shack built of CD cases listening to songs every waking moment. And probably in his sleep, too. In short, they’ve got really big music freak brains and they know how to use them. |
